Severe flooding and traffic at Shepherd’s Bush following drilling accident

By: Sarah Spickernell

The roads around Shepherd's Bush are currently under 24 inches of water, following an accident at the west London station earlier in the day

Contractors for the National grid reportedly drilled through the pipes they have been working to replace near the junction of Uxbridge Road and Pennard Road, leading to severe flooding and a build up of traffic.

The westbound lane had already been shut off between Shepherd's Bush Green and Lime Grove since Tuesday, but things became worse when the incident took place at 12.30, with water spurting out of the ground and making travel even more difficult.

One person tweeted a photo of the scene, describing it as “madness”.

Thames Water blamed the accident on a "third party", and said the disruptions were likely to continue for the rest of the day.

Our team are re-routing water around our network to get supplies back to normal, we expect this to take until later on this evening #bushw12
