Spotify among apps hit by internet outage.

Social media sites and internet services including Snapchat, Spotify, Discord and Amazon have reported network downtime this evening.

Google Cloud, which provides web hosting services, emerged as the culprit for site outages across the internet and while most sites are back online the company’s status page is still registering an outage to networking services. Amid the chaos more than 50,000 disgruntled Spotify users reported network downtime while over 100,000 Snapchatters reported disruption to services.

Many Snapchatters are having trouble using the app. Hang tight, we're working on a fix 🛠 In the meantime, we recommend staying logged in.

In a statement Google Cloud said: “we are aware of an issue with Google Cloud Platform.” The team advised disgruntled internet users to view its “status dashboard for details.”

According to internet monitor Downdetector websites including Fitbit, Pokemon GO, Etsy, Virgin Media, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and Sky were also briefly affected this evening.

It echoes internet-wide disruption caused by a software bug in June which caused many of the world’s biggest websites to go offline. Outages of various sizes were reported at Reddit, Twitch, Amazon, HBO Max, CNN, Etsy, and Paypal. The UK government’s website also became inaccessible.
