Michael Heseltine’s haircut homily is high value at Immigration Awards

“I call him Michael, but I doubt he remembers my name,” Hugh Davies, ex-foreign office diplomat told The Capitalist of Lord Heseltine, at the High-Value Immigration Awards last night.

Davies, a judge for awards (now in their second year and organised by InvestUK), met Hesseltine in 1973 when they were both part of the diplomatic meeting between the Brits and Chinese. Celebrating inward investment and high-value migration into the UK, it was the perfect event for the pair to meet again.

“I’d like to thank you for having me,” Heseltine said as he took to the stage at the Westbury Hotel, “The last time I was here was at 12pm on 9 January, 1955 and I was coming to cut my long hair before arriving for national service – I haven’t been back since.”

He went on to praise enterprise and the openness and opportunity presented by Britain – much to the delight of the crowd.

Enterprise of the year winner, Lawrence Marazzi, CEO of Britain’s only electric motorbike company Agility had a busy night.

He dashed hot foot from another awards bash on Park Lane just in time to pick up the gong.
