She once said she was “not prepared to have the Queen’s head privatised”, but ironically only a year after the Royal Mail was taken private, Margaret Thatcher is to appear on a commemorative stamp.

It's the first time the Iron lady has appeared on a stamp, it's part of a collection celebrating Prime Ministers from the last 200 years. She's joined by William Pitt the Younger, Charles Grey, Robert Peel, William Gladstone, Winston Churchill, Clement Attlee and Harold Wilson.

There have been 53 Prime Ministers in total (the term has only been used for the last two centuries). “This is an intriguing selection of Prime Ministers, reaching back to the 18th century," said Paul Lay, Editor, History Today Magazine.

"Some – Winston Churchill, William Gladstone – need little introduction. Yet figures such as Charles Grey, the 2nd Early Grey, though little known today, played crucial roles in some of British history most important events, including the Great Reform Act of 1832, which set the country on the path to mass democracy, and the abolition of slavery.

"Margaret Thatcher and Harold Wilson were major figures in important times and, whatever one’s political views, deserve their place in the selection."

No mention of Blair, then.
