There’s no business like e-business: Amazon Local takes on Ticketmaster with West End ticket offers

Amazon has moved into ticketing after launching offers to West End shows on its daily deals website today, putting it head-to-head with established players such as Ticketmaster and See Tickets.

As part of its latest Amazon Local expansion, the internet retailer will now also offer tickets to all 48 shows in the West End including Book of Mormon at the Prince of Wales and Phantom of the Opera at Her Majesty’s Theatre.

Amazon entered the fiercely competitive daily deals market in 2012, taking on the likes of Groupon and Wowcher by offering shoppers deals on services and products such as restaurant meals, hotel stays or beauty treatment in 34 regions across the UK.

The platform also allowes merchants – from large businesses to local independent firms – to tailor their deals and target specific customers.

“Amazon Local has become a one-stop destination for the very best in entertainment, dining, travel and beauty experiences across the UK.” Geraldine Wilson, Amazon Local’s UK general manager, said.

“The West End is a British institution, and now, our customers can choose from any show and book in just a few clicks,” she added.
