Emma Kane: Three things you didn’t know about the CEO and founder of Redleaf Polhill

By: Gabriella Griffith

1 In the 1980s, Emma was a professional tenor saxophonist, having studied jazz and popular music. Today she gets her musical kicks through being chairman of the Barbican Centre Trust, a role to which she was appointed in September. She is also a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and Board Director of Grange Park Opera.

2 Her passion outside Redleaf is sculpting, primarily in stone and bronze.  She has a studio on an industrial estate near Staples Corner and describes her sculpting look as very Breaking Bad – breathing apparatus, goggles, boiler suits. She is currently exhibiting her large garden bronzes and has just completed a private commission.

3 She is the mother of Patrick Kane, aka the Bionic Boy, who was the youngest person in the world to get a bionic arm (having had meningitis as a child). Patrick is  an Ambassador for Sepsis UK and recently did a TED Talk. He shot to fame in June when he appeared in a video at the start of the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference.
