Twenty fire engines battle huge blaze at Didcot power station B
FIRE crews were battling to control a large fire at Didcot power station B last night after one of the cooling towers caught alight.
Twenty fire crews from the area were sent to the site, which houses the natural gas power plant, and Thames Valley police warned local residents to stay inside and close all doors and windows.
Buckinghamshire fire and rescue service confirmed it had sent a turntable ladder from High Wycombe fire station to help tackle the blaze.
Local people reportedly flocked to nearby Great Western Park to watch as the fire took hold late last night. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
The power station has been in operation since 1997 and provides energy to up to a million homes across the UK. Its sister site, coal-powered power station A, was partially demolished earlier this year after being decommissioned in 2013.
