UK holidaymakers warned of summer essentials shortage

Those who decide to holiday in the UK this year could struggle to find supplies, with importers experiencing delays.

Summer essentials like garden furniture, picnic baskets and outdoor toys could be in short supply this year, with many British suppliers experiencing import delays this month.

Around 60 per cent of British suppliers have experienced import delays, the BBC reported, with the Suez Canal blockage earlier this year partly to blame.

Increasing global demand for shopping containers is also an issue for suppliers, as well as disruption to shipping caused by India’s health crisis, and a shortage of packaging materials.

“With competition for container space so high, some smaller businesses are simply being priced out of landing the goods and materials they need,” Sam Tyagi, founder and chief executive of customs clearance platform KlearNow told the BBC.

There has been a spike in demand in Britain for camping items as more families look to holiday in the UK this year.

There has also been an explosion in demand from the hospitality industry as it gets back on its feet.
