UK Mail posts rise in revenues

By: John Dunne

ROYAL Mail rival UK Mail reported a rise in revenues for the last three months of 2009.

Revenues rose 4 per cent compared to the same period last year.

UK Mail’s chief executive Guy Buswell said a rise in marketing companies sending junk mail had driven sales in its business post operations.

Strike action by Royal Mail benefited the company although it relies on the operation to deliver some of its items.

Buswell said: “The strike action had a marginally positive impact.”

A rise in discretionary mailings – or junk mail – also helped fuel the figures as marketing companies increased spending.

The company said profits for the year are now expected to be ahead of previous forecasts.
