Ukip’s Suzanne Evans facing sack over “divisive” Nigel Farage comments

Ukip deputy chairman Suzanne Evans is facing the sack after criticising leader Nigel Farage on the BBC.

An internal party email released by the BBC titled "Suzanne Evans" appears to issue a directive for all officials to cut off contact with the former policy chief.

The email states that "in light of Suzanne Evans' comments on TDP [The Daily Politics]" the Ukip press office should have no further contact with Evans, accept any media bids or "brief or advise her on any issue".

Speaking about what role Farage could play in the in/out EU referendum, Evans said: "I think Nigel is a very divisive character in terms of the way he is perceived. He is not divisive as a person but the way he is perceived in having strong views that divide people.

"So in that sense…I think it will be somebody else who actually fronts it [the referendum campaign]."

Evans is currently the most senior woman in the party and was the architect of Ukip's manifesto at last month's general election. However, she left the party's head office after her contract expired amidst rumours that she was being punished for attempting to stage a bid for the leadership.
