After almost three years the tunnelling for Crossrail is nearly finished and the project is shifting towards fitting out the stations ahead of the hugely anticipated 2018 launch.

The BBC has also been busy behind the scenes. For the past four months the broadcaster has been trying to convince the project's safety team to let it send a drone along the tunnels of the giant infrastructure project that will cross more than 100km from Reading and Heathrow in the west, through central London to Shenfield and Abbey Wood in the east.

Luckily for us, Crossrail finally agreed.

The BBC sent a drone and “trained pilot” Jon Bontoft down to see what they could capture. These two videos show the results.
