Welbeck out to prove class

HITMAN Danny Welbeck believes his deadline day transfer to Arsenal will see him escape the shackles of an indifferent goalscoring record.

The 23-year-old netted 29 goals in 142 appearances for former club Manchester United and has received criticism for a lack of natural finishing ability.

But after the Gunners splashed out £16m to sign the forward, Welbeck believes his move to north London can elevate his career and heighten his goalscoring instinct.

“I just think this is the next stage of my development, to come to Arsenal and really show people what I can do as a footballer and hopefully get to the place where I want to be,” said Welbeck. “With the magnificent players in midfield, I can run on to balls and slot them away.”
