Woz makes US Open quarters
DENMARK’S Caroline Wozniacki brushed aside Maria Sharapova to reach the quarter-finals of the US Open yesterday.
Wozniacki dispatched her rival 6-4, 2-6, 6-2 to make the last eight at a grand slam for the first time since the 2012 Australian Open.
Fourth seed David Ferrer became the first top-10 man to crash out after suffering a third-round loss to France’s Gilles Simon.
Spain’s Ferrer lost 6-3, 3-6, 6-1, 6-3 and having made 10 straight grand slam quarter-finals, he has failed to get past round three in his last two.
