Here’s what the new Nine Elms Tube station will look like
Transport for London (TfL) has unveiled its design for Nine Elms Tube station, which will open when the Northern Line extension is completed in 2020.
In a statement today it said it had been given planning permission for 332 homes over the station, as well as 5,332 sq m of office space, 902 sq m of retail and leisure space and a new public square.
The homes are part of a plan to generate £3.4bn in "non-fare revenue" by 2020.
TfL has already announced 13 property development partners, including Berkeley Group and Barratt, which will help it build homes.
The new station will be part of the £1bn extension to the Northern Line, which is heading further south, into Nine Elms and Battersea.
Last week TfL showed us the two giant, 650-tonne boring machines which will dig the extension.
At 100m long and 5.2m wide, each machine will run for 24 hours a day – with the earth they excavate being taken to Essex to create farmland on a former landfill site. Aaaah.
