The highest paid football managers in the world 2016: Ex-Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho tops earnings list while Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp and Arsenal’s Arsene Wenger both make top 10

Jose Mourinho has been named the world's highest paid manager for the seventh year in a row in France Football's annual study of football's richest.

With £19m in the bank, the Portuguese manager is this season's highest earning coach despite being sacked by the Blues in December following a disastrous start to the season.

Mourinho is still being paid by Chelsea until he finds a new club – a measure the Premier League club reportedly believe would be more cost effective than negotiating a huge compensation fee to release him from his £16m-a-year deal.

His former rival Pep Guardiola is joint second on the list with former England and Russia boss Fabio Capello with both men said to have earned just over £13m.

Guardiola will become the highest earning manager in the Premier League when he joins Manchester City next season but for now that accolade belongs to Newcastle's Rafael Benitez who, despite being sacked after just six months at Real Madrid, earned a full year's salary due to a clause in his contract, and has since boosted his earnings at Newcastle.

Current Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is the fifth-highest earner on £10.4m for the season while former Anfield boss Brendan Rodgers is ninth on €10m.

Arsenal's Arsene Wenger is eighth with £8.8m for the season. Former and current Premier League managers Louis Van Gaal, Gary Monk and Manuel Pellegrini also feature in the top 10.
