A Wall.E style robot that can help around the home has been launched by Taiwan electronics firm Asus.

“For decades, humans have dreamed of owning such a companion: one that is smart, dear to our hearts, and always at our disposal. Our ambition is to enable robotic computing for every household," said Asus chairman Jonney Shih.

Zenbo works as a voice assistant in a similar way to Amazon's Echo, Apple's Siri and Google's new Assistant and Home device but can make its own way around the house.

It can connect to other connected devices around the home such as lighting or heating, and cameras can monitor the home while owners are out, as well as being used for taking photos and make video calls. Zenbo can play music around the home and remind you to do things or even be used as a storyteller for children's bedtime stories.

Unveiled at a press event on Monday, Asus said Zenbo would help seniors become connected to the digital world via the "sweet little companion", and help them with their health. In a promotional video it showed Zenbo telling someone to remember to take tablets.

Zenbo works with Android and developers will be able to build tools and applications for it. It will go on sale later this year priced at $599 (£409).
