Did Barbra Streisand just let slip Apple’s iOS 10 release date?

When you're as big a star as Barbra Streisand, you can pretty much do what you want – including getting the boss of one of the biggest companies in the world to fix what might be a minor annoyance to us mere mortals.

The singer's name is pronounced slightly wrong by iPhone voice assistant Siri, it turns out (something we imagine only she was aware of).

The emphasis on the second s of her surname with a z, rather than an s (it should be StreiSand, not StreiZand), prompted a call directly to Apple chief Tim Cook she told the US public radio station NPR over the weekend.

"Streisand with a soft s, like sand on the beach. I've been saying this for my whole career. And so what did I do?" she said.

And clearly, when Streisand demands something, no one can say no.

"I called the head of Apple, Tim Cook, and he delightfully agreed to have Siri change the pronunciation of my name, finally, with the next update on 30 September."

And with that, the star may have just revealed the top secret release date of the newest iPhone operating system currently only in beta stage. Although, that exact date would be later than previous updates, with the majority coming in mid-September, Apple fans note.

The iOS 10 update will add several new features to users' existing iPhones, including so-called "emojification", where emojis are suggested in your text to replace words.

Apple is also due to unveil its latest device, the iPhone 7, in the same month.
