Apple pushes into the TV market and launches a new MacBook

Apple is pushing into the television market, offering a new TV app that works on both iPhones and iPads.

Apple's chief executive Tim Cook said Apple TV would become the place where customers access all of their television. The new app will launch before the end of 2016. Users will be able to tell Siri what they want to watch – and the app takes them to it.

The tech giant has also launched a new MacBook Pro – the thinnest and lightest MacBook Pro Apple has ever made.

It comes with a touch bar at the top of the keyboard, complete with emojis. The laptop comes in two sizes, 13 inches and 15 inches, and two colours, grey and dark grey.

The touch bar has controls for volume and moving between windows. It also allows users to switch between apps, such as Safari and Photos.

At the launch, Cook said: "The Mac is so incredibly important to us."

"This week happens to be a huge week in the history of the Mac, and the history of Apple."

It's been 25 years since the company launched its first notebook.

Apple has had a rollercoaster week – on Tuesday, it posted its first annual revenue drop for over a decade.

Revenue fell nine per cent to $46.85bn (£38.44bn), the third quarterly decline in a row and to $46.85bn (£38.44bn), the third quarter-on-quarter drop in a row.

The company said sales would pick up during the festive season.
