Man charged with assault after Brexit party chief Nigel Farage hit with milkshake
A man has been charged with common assault after Brexit party leader Nigel Farage was left covered in milkshake in Newcastle city centre yesterday.

Staff quickly hurried Farage away from the scene after he was hit with the milkshake while out and about attempting to garner support in the northern city.
Northumbria Police have charged 32-year-old Paul Crowther, of Holeyn Road in Throckley, Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, with common assault and criminal damage in connection with the incident.
“At around 1pm [yesterday], a 55-year-old man had a milkshake thrown at him in the city centre,” the police said in a statement. “A 32-year-old man was detained at the scene and arrested by police.
“He has now been charged with common assault and criminal damage.”
Crowther is set to appear before North Tyneside Magistrates’ Court on 18 June.

Media reports said an empty Five Guys banana and salted caramel milkshake cup was found at the scene after the incident.
Farage had finished giving a speech in Newcastle ahead of Thursday’s European parliament elections when the incident occurred.
Farage blamed “radicalised” Remainers for the assault, tweeting: “Sadly some remainers have become radicalised, to the extent that normal campaigning is becoming impossible.
“For a civilised democracy to work you need the losers consent, politicians not accepting the referendum result have led us to this.”

He added: “Whatever they throw at us, we will never give up.”
The former Ukip leader’s Brexit party is ahead in the polls for the elections this week, topping a Comres Centrum poll last week with 27 per cent of the public vote.
