Phoenix to rise to the occasion

Tomorrow’s Coral-Eclipse looks an ultra competitive contest with no superstar entries like in the last two seasons, but two horses who look the type to have a very good second half of the season.

Phoenix Tower is definitely the form pick with a very good second at Royal Ascot to Duke of Marmalade, while Mount Nelson was an eye catching runner in the Queen Anne Stakes, when fifth to stablemate, Haradasun.

Bookmakers seem to be unsure, but for me the clear form pick is Phoenix Tower and I think he will give the legendary Henry Cecil another CoralEclipse victory and should be backed at 7/2 with the sponsors of the race, Coral.

Next Wednesday is Best of British Night at Kempton Park which is one of Kempton Park’s most popular race meetings of the year, a night of patriotism, sing-along songs and top class racing, taking place on 9th July 2008. This year Classical Brit winners Blake will take to the stage after all the equine action from the track has finished. Formed through Facebook, Blake will get the emotion stirring with renditions of classic British tunes such as Jerusalem.

Also making an appearance are the Band of the Irish Guards, who, with their red jackets and trumpets, couldn’t be anything but British. This world famous band was created in 1900 and has since travelled the length of the globe. The grand finale will be fireworks spectacular above the course, which will leave racegoers with a sense of pride and jubilation. Make the evening extra special by booking a table in the glass-fronted Panoramic Restaurant, the perfect location for a great night out. Located at the top of the course grandstand, it offers three tiers of tables and booths with stunning views.

Black Velvet will entertain you after racing in the restaurant on the Irish Night. Tables start from £69.95 per head, which includes admission, race card, a two course meal and parking. For more information and table bookings call 01932 753 518 or email [email protected]. Leave the car at home and travel to Kempton Park by train. Trains run from Waterloo and Clapham Junction every half an hour with the last train returning from Kempton back to central London at 11:18pm.

Adult admission is £20 and Kempton offers a 20 per cent discount on group bookings of six people or more buying general admission tickets in advance, over 60s and students receive discounted rates. Kids go free! To book tickets call 01372 470047 or go to www.kempton.co.uk.
