Blackrock’s Jonathan Burrows, the City’s artful ticket dodging banker, is hardly alone

The City’s artful ticket dodger has finally been named. Turns out the mystery Stonegate to Cannon Street commuter, who shaved a whopping £43,000 off the price of his commute by not tapping in at Stonegate (making him the biggest fare dodger in history), was Blackrock investment executive Jonathan Burrows. He has since resigned.

Burrows can console himself, however, with the thought he is not the only banker to lose his job over something silly and completely avoidable – oh no, it happens quite a lot.

1. Remember Anton Casey? The British banker lost his job at wealth management firm Crossinvest Asia in Singapore having posted sneering posts about poor people on Facebook. He fled the country to Perth, where he later described the comments as the worst mistake of his life.

2. Then there’s the unidentified Deutsche Bank employee who was suspended from work after he taunted NHS protesters by waving a tenner at them out the window.

3. David Redmond lost his job at Morgan Stanley back in 2009 after it was revealed he returned to the office after a 3.5 hour boozy lunch only to gamble some £5.1m in a frantic trading spree. An expensive lunch, you might think.
