Summer sparklers

SWEATY days in the city and holidays in blue-skied paradises do not warrant clunky jewellery. In hot weather, elegance is all. This summer it’s easier than ever to find jewellery that embodies the languorous feeling that comes with sunshine.

Here we have picked a small sample of gorgeous pieces that are both luxurious, serious jewels and light-hearted, warm and playful. From the V&A’s cherry earrings to Bulgari’s cascading rainbow of a necklace, there’s plenty of originality and summer spirit to each.

This is also a good time to look for golden cuffs to set off tanned skin (again, the V&A has done a beautiful one) and playful shapes such as cocktail and stacked rings (Harrods stocks a superb collection from Monica Vinader). Net a Porter, always a great stop-off for clothes, has a great selection too.

Bead Necklace by Malene Birger, £125
Summery as a big, stylish fruit salad. And possibly just as delicious.

Three Stone Cuff by Lucas Jack, £100
Golden, colourful and chunky equals perfect.

Cherry Earrings by V&A, £145
Never has fruit on the ears been so tasteful and, well, tempting. Evokes popsicle-stained lips and long, hot afternoons.

Medina Ring by Monica Vinader at Harrods, £180
A stacked ring that evokes a sense of bounty and warm colour. Very trendy too.

Ribbon Ring by William & Son, £2,500
18-carat white gold with a warming amber stone.

Allegra Bracelet, Bulgari, £22,000
A once-in-a-lifetime gift, obviously. Also deliciously reminiscent of pomegranate seeds.
