Advertising agency WPP yesterday announced it had acquired a majority stake in Cairos Usabilidade Eireli, a Brazil-based development agency known as Try.

Described by WPP as “a user experience agency that designs and develops custom web, mobile, desktop and touch-enabled applications”, Try employs 22 people and has a number of high profile clients.

WPP said in a statement that the acquisition was in line with the company’s desire to expand into emerging markets and especially Brazil, where the group employs 6,000 staff. It is also seeking a greater presence in data and digital agencies.

Try advises its clients on user-experience, interactive design and prototyping and has worked with fashion giant Kate Spade, Electrolux, SKY and Havaianas.

At the end of the year, Try had group revenues of 2.5m Brazilian reals (£0.68m) with gross assets of approximately 0.3m reals.

WPP, which is run by chief executive Sir Martin Sorrell, saw its share price rise yesterday, closing up 1.01 per cent at 1,298p.
