These weak results will not improve the current negative investor sentiment surrounding BG. However, we are in the view that the appointment of a very experienced CEO such as Helge Lund, coming from Statoil and who will join BG in March 2015, is excellent news for BG.

When the previous CEO resigned in May the board of directors said that “the company must accelerate the creation and delivery of the long term value for our shareholders”. However, third quarter results provide no formal guidance on the outlook for 2015 and there is no news on accelerating value delivery. Investors may have to wait for the arrival of Helge

Overall, these are disappointing numbers with the fall in the price of crude oil during the past four months seemingly well represented in BG’s earnings. Investors have been looking out for an update on a far-reaching review of assets to decide on potential disposals. There’s no sign of that so far today.
