JAILED footballer Ched Evans could be in line to resume his football career on release from prison after Blades boss Nigel Clough confirmed he has held preliminary talks with Brammall Lane bosses regarding the striker’s return.

The 25-year-old, who has always maintained his innocence, was sentenced to five years behind bars after being found guilty of raping a 19-year-old woman in April 2012 but is set to be released tomorrow.

More than 90,000 people have signed a petition calling for the club not to re-employ the former Manchester City forward, who scored 35 goals in all competitions in the season he was awaiting trial.
