Brewing up a storm: Sales in craft beer at Tesco soar 130 per cent in a year

It’s a trend that took off in the UK in the dingy East End of London by bearded men in plaid shirts.

But now craft beer has become so popular in pubs across the country that demand at Tesco stores has jumped by 130 per cent in the last year alone.

The supermarket started off with just two types of the hipster beer, but from next week will stock over thirty varieties in over 400 high street stores.

Some of the beers which will be available include Flying Dog – Snake Dog; Oskar Blues – Pinner Session IPA; Fourpure – American Pale Ale; Thornbridge Jaipur IPA; Vocation – Life & Death IPA; and Pistonhead – Amber Lager.

Tesco is even about to trial their own chilled beer and cider delivery range in South East London, Bromley and Dartford.

“The new range will include Craft beers for all tastes – from the wonderfully refreshing, slightly fruity flavour of the UK’s No 1 Craft beer BrewDog Punk IPA to the beautifully malty Brooklyn Lager and even the rich Innis & Gunn Oak Aged Beer,” said Tesco Craft beer buyer, Peter Bexton.

Tesco's 10 most popular craft beers are as follows:

1. BrewDog Punk IPA

2. Innis & Gunn Original

3. Sierra Nevada

4. Blue Moon

5. BrewDog Dead Pony Club

6. Brooklyn Lager

7. Innis & Gunn Lager

8. Fruli Strawberry Beer

9. St Austell Korev

10. Anchor Steam Beer

Cheers to that.
