Nigel Farage today launched his Brexit party as the UK prepare for the prospect of taking part in European elections three years after voting to leave the EU.

Jacob Rees-Mogg’s sister, Annunziata Rees-Mogg, was confirmed as the new party’s first candidate for the MEP elections.

She said that the UK remains “a great nation” while “Europe stagnates”, according to Sky News.

Meanwhile Farage told his audience that “no leavers have changed their mind [since the 2016 referendum] – the leave vote has hardened”.

Farage earlier told BBC Radio 4’s Today programme that he was “determined to make sure the referendum result is enacted”.

Launching the new party in Coventry, the former Ukip politician, a driving force behind the Leave vote three years ago, attacked what he called “career politicians”.

He said the EU was a safety net for candidates who have failed to win seats nationally.

Farage himself plans to stand as an MEP candidate, after committing to staying on as an MEP despite Brexit . He lost his South Thanet seat in 2015, prompting him to quit as leader of Ukip before choosing to stay for the referendum.

An Open Europe poll found the Brexit party could win 7.5 per cent of UK votes in the MEP elections, with the Tories on track to win a comparatively paltry 23 per cent.
