Hotel Chocolat has been left with a bitter taste in its mouth after police found its stolen ‘Chocmobile’ burnt out in Bedfordshire.

Officers found the distinctive black van at roughly 9am today in Kempston Hardwick on the outskirts of Bedford.

The Chocmobile, which was used to sell treats such as hot chocolate, brownies and ice cream, was stolen from the chocolatier’s Hertfordshire headquarters at the end of last month.

Hotel Chocolat had offered a tour of its top secret factory and five-year subscription to its chocolate tasting club in exchange for any information leading to the van’s recovery.

Chief executive Angus Thirlwell, who was crowned City A.M Entrepreneur of the Year in 2016, led a rousing social media campaign calling for the van’s return.

But any hopes of restoring the Chocmobile to its former glory have now all but melted away.

Police said three males were spotted on CCTV breaking into the Mercedes Sprinter van. However, no arrests have been made.

“Our investigation looking into this incident is still ongoing and we want to encourage people who may have any information to dial 101, quoting 41/69223/19,” a Hertfordshire Constabulary spokesperson said.
