A comprehensive list of all the central London journeys that could be quicker to walk

You may have seen these handy Transport for London (TfL) walking maps showing you the specific steps it takes to walk between stations on the same line and how long it would take.

But have you seen there's a comprehensive list of all the central journeys that could be quicker to walk, rather than take public transport? Especially during the busiest times which are 8-9am and 5.30-6.30pm. Well, TfL has an infographic listing them all, how long they take and about how many steps it'll take you.

All the journeys would involve at least one station interchange, should you opt for hitting public transport. And it estimates the average walker will take 100 steps per minute.

When TfL unveiled the walking maps in August, London Mayor Sadiq Khan said: "We need to make it easier and more enjoyable to walk around London. We all hop on the Tube to take short journeys around central London, whether for work or when we’re out in the evening.

"The new steps map will encourage more of us to walk these short journeys instead – it’s good for our health and it will help support London’s small businesses."

And if you're keen to up your fitness but don't have a smartwatch or fitness tracker to do so, you could always resort to this map compiled by Dr Wayne Osborne, who has listed the calories you'd burn walking between each stop. With most inner-London stations about a 15 minute walk apart, you could burn around 60 calories.

(Jogging burns an extra 10 calories a minute, while taking a Boris bike would burn an extra seven calories.)
