Crown Estate shelves plans for wind farm in Bristol Channel
THE CROWN Estate, which controls seabeds around the UK, yesterday said there are no plans to build a wind farm in the Bristol Channel after RWE Npower pulled out of a £4bn project.
“Having evaluated the site we feel this it is not a viable investment opportunity at the present time and we therefore have no plans to undertake further work on the Bristol Channel zone for the foreseeable future,” a Crown Estate spokesperson told CityAM via email yesterday. “However, the area remains one that has a good resource and in the long-term, technological developments that reduce costs could allow us to bring to market a project on this site in the future.”
Power giant RWE said this week that it had withdrawn from the Atlantic Array wind farm project in the Bristol Channel, as it was “uneconomic”.
“Technical challenges within the Bristol Channel Zone are significant, including substantially deeper waters and adverse seabed conditions,” the firm said.
