FFP spotlight falls on Anfield

EUROPEAN football’s governing body Uefa confirmed yesterday it is currently in the process of formally investigating Liverpool and six other clubs across the continent for potential breaches of Financial Fair Play (FFP).

Italian giants Inter Milan and Roma, together with Monaco, Besiktas, Sporting Lisbon and Russian side Krasnodar are the other clubs under the financial spotlight.

Uefa rules stipulate losses must be restricted to £35.4m over a two-year window, with the clubs in question now forced to provide further financial clarity.

While reigning Premier League champions Manchester City received heavy penalties last season for breaching FFP rules, Liverpool appear unruffled by Uefa’s probing having signed a series of lucrative commercial contracts over the past 18 months.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers said: “It’s something we’re comfortable with because we’re great advocates of FFP.”
