Is Ferrari’s first EV already a collectable?

The first Ferrari Luce production car will be sold by RM Sotheby’s during Monterey Car Week, with proceeds supporting the Ferrari Foundation.

The very first Ferrari Luce production car will be auctioned by RM Sotheby’s during Monterey Car Week, with the auction house valuing the electric Ferrari at more than £800,000.

The car is significant because it is chassis no.0, making it the first production example of Ferrari’s inaugural electric vehicle. According to RM Sotheby’s, it is expected to achieve well above the standard Ferrari Luce list price, which starts at just under £500,000.

Proceeds from the sale will go to the Ferrari Foundation, the marque’s charitable organisation, which supports educational projects.

Ferrari Luce Tailor Made specification

Part of the car’s appeal is its bespoke specification. It was commissioned through Ferrari’s Tailor Made programme and finished in a unique shade called Madreperla Semi-Gloss, a white paint with iridescent reflections that Ferrari says shift from green to violet depending on the viewing angle and light. The Luce’s minimalist look was overseen by Sir Jony Ive’s design studio, LoveFrom.

The one-off theme continues with white alloy wheels and white brake calipers, with the cabin trimmed to match the car’s pale, minimalist design. The effect is deliberately understated and gives the Luce a look that feels closer to a high-end piece of industrial design than a traditional Ferrari.

A dedicated plaque confirms the car’s status as the first production Luce, adding further provenance for collectors.

When will the first Ferrari Luce be delivered?

Although the auction will take place during Monterey Car Week, the successful bidder will not take immediate delivery. Ferrari says the car will return to Maranello after the sale, with handover to its new owner scheduled for the first quarter of 2027.

The example being sold has also been built to US specification, reflecting the importance of the American market for Ferrari and for Monterey Car Week.

Ferrari’s first electric car has divided opinion since its unveiling, but collectors have rarely been shy about paying a premium for a significant chassis number. Whether the Luce becomes a landmark model for the company remains to be seen. Owning the very first production example, however, is the sort of opportunity that comes along only once.
