Jerry can sales surge at Halfords as fuel panic buying grips the UK

Car and bike retailer Halfords has entered the software industry by launching B2B firm Avayler, it was announced this morning.
Though some Brits bought jerry cans to pick up additional supplies of fuel, others looked for cleaner alternatives, like bikes and electric bikes.

Jerry can sales surged an eyewatering 1,656 per cent at Halfords this weekend, as panic buying gripped the UK when news of a fuel shortage hit the streets.

With a trickling supply of HGV drivers in the country, fuel forecourts have been reporting a reduced supply of petrol and diesel, which has led to cars queuing outside of stations over the past few days.

The situation has prompted business secretary Kwasi Kwarteng to suspend competition laws so that it is easier for fuel companies to refill stations.

Meanwhile, breakdown cover firm RAC has seen an uptick in cars running out of fuel, as it urges drivers to only take what they need.

Though some Brits bought jerry cans to pick up additional supplies of fuel, others looked for cleaner alternatives, like bikes and electric bikes.

Orders for bikes jumped 23 per cent compared with data from last Saturday, Halfords said, while they soared 106 per cent in comparison with last Sunday.
