The John Lewis Partnership has appointed British Airways' outgoing boss Keith Williams to take over Mark Price as its new deputy chairman.

Williams is already a member of the Partnership board after joining in March 2014 and will succeed Price on 4 April, who is leaving his dual role as deputy chairman and Waitrose managing director to take up his new government position as trade minister.

He will also retire as chief executive at British Airways the end of March after five years in the role and 18 years at the airline.

JLP chairman Sir Charlie Mayfield, said: “I’m delighted Keith has agreed to take up the role of deputy chairman. In the two years since his appointment to the board he has made a valuable contribution to the Partnership and I look forward to working with him in his new role”.

Before joining British Airways, Williams worked for a range of major corporations including Reckitt and Coleman, Apple and Boots. He is also independent non-executive director of Transport for London.

As well as becoming deputy chairman he will also extend his term as a non-executive director for a further two years.
