CITY MOVES | WHO’S SWITCHING JOBS

The Co-Operative Group

The Co-operative Group has appointed Steve Murrells as chief executive of its food business replacing Tim Hurrell, who retired last year. Murrells, who will report to group CEO Peter Marks when he starts in July, will join Britain’s fifth largest food retailer from Danish meat company Tulip, where he is UK chief executive. Prior to that, he held a number of senior positions at Tesco, including CEO for One Stop stores and commercial director of fresh foods.

Neptune IM

Ian Harvey has been hired as head of institutional business at Neptune Investment Management. He moves from LV Asset Management, where he was head of UK institutional business, following roles at Gartmore, Invesco and BNY Mellon Asset Management International.

GFMA

The Global Financial Markets Association has announced that Blythe Masters, head of global commodities at JP Morgan Chase, will take over as chair from Michele Faissola, global head of rates and commodities at Deutsche Bank, on 1 February. At the same time, Simon Lewis, CEO of the Association for Financial Markets in Europe, will take over as CEO from Tim Ryan. Masters and Lewis will serve in their roles for two years.

Reed Smith

Paul Taylor, a construction disputes expert in the United Arab Emirates, has been appointed to the partnership. Smith, formerly at Gateley, joins the firm’s commercial disputes group in its Dubai office as a member of the construction and engineering team.

Carlsberg

Benet Slay, formerly managing director, Northern Europe for Diageo, has been appointed as chief executive of Carlsberg UK, effective from 1 March. He replaces Jesper Friis, senior vice president for Carlsberg Western Europe, who has been acting as interim CEO.

The Payments Council

Clare Spottiswoode, chairman of Gas Strategies and a non-executive director of G4S, and Gerard Lemos, head of research at Lemos & Crane, have been appointed as independent directors on the board of The Payments Council.

Skadden

Dominic McCahill has joined the law firm Skadden Arps Slate Meagher & Flom from Weil Gotshal & Manges.
