Pickleball in Guildhall Yard last year as part of the launch of the London Sports Festival

Central London Alliance’s London Sports Festival, in partnership with Landsec and supported by Fleet Street Quarter, is set to bring one of the world’s fastest-growing sports to the heart of the capital with the launch of a new pickleball activation at New Street Square.

Pickleball is the fast-paced, social sport that has taken the world by storm, attracting over 24 million players in the US alone and a rapidly growing community in the UK. Whether a complete beginner or a seasoned player, anyone can pick up a paddle and instantly feel the appeal, and New Street Square is the perfect setting to do just that.

Set between Farringdon, Blackfriars and Temple – New Street Square is a vibrant hub of activity on any day, but this installation will give even more workers, visitors and residents the chance to experience pickleball in an accessible and social setting.

The activation will feature a dynamic programme of activity designed to appeal to all ages and abilities. Local businesses will have the opportunity to take part in corporate challenges, encouraging City workers to connect, compete and enjoy a fun, active break from the working day.

Alongside this, community and school sessions will be available, offering young people and local groups the chance to be involved, learn new skills and experience the sport in a welcoming and supportive environment.

Pickleball’s easy-to-learn format and inclusive nature makes it the perfect addition to London Sports Festival’s growing programme, continuing its mission to activate spaces and make sport more accessible across central London.

With its purpose-built public space and ample seating, New Street Square is the ideal location, surrounded by a wealth of lunch options from a curated selection of brands such as Natural Kitchen, Yolk, The Salad Project, Bonata, Garbanzos, Honi Poke and more.

Tom Lambregts, Marketing Manager at Landsec commented:

“Our community can’t wait to get onto the Pickleball court, especially as it’s in place before and after our popular Wimbledon tennis screenings. Having created New Street Square as a place to stand the test of time, we’re thrilled to be working with the CLA for a second year to make sure that we’re providing a memorable experience for our guest and customers.”

Delivered as part of Central London Alliance’s wider series of activations across the capital, this latest addition builds on the London Sports Festival’s momentum, offering more opportunities for people to stay active, try something new and engage with sport across the capital.

Further details, including dates and how to take part, can be found at the London Sports Festival website: www.londonsportsfestival.com/pickleball-new-street-square
