Scottish independence: Polls show referendum may go right to the wire
Three new polls last night showed the No campaign edging ahead in the Scottish referendum race, all revealing identical but close results.
The data will give the Better Together campaign a welcome boost as both camps head into the final full day of the election battle, but the results remain extremely tight and could yet go either way.
A poll by ICM for the Scotsman showed No on 45 per cent and Yes on 41 with 14 per cent don’t know. When the undecided voters were removed, ICM showed 52 per cent in favour of the union with 48 per cent seeking independence. Opinium’s poll for the Telegraph also came out with a 52 per cent lead for No against 48 per cent Yes, with a Survation survey showing the same result late last night.
“The final polls may pick up very late swing, but barring any surprises it looks like the polls are going to be predicting a narrow victory for No,” YouGov’s Anthony Wells commented last night.
The referendum battle has been hard fought on both sides, with No having squandered a large 22-point lead in a month, as Yes closed in.
