Cyclists of all ages and abilities have the opportunity to ride past some of London’s most famous landmarks this weekend as 2014 Prudential Ride London rolls into town.

In total, there will be five events taking place in the city between 9am on Saturday morning and 6pm on Sunday evening.

However, some Londoners will suffer from travel disruption as roads holding events will be fully closed, while some surrounding streets may also be inaccessible.

The Saturday events, including the open participation “FreeCycle” and a youth race, will affect central London areas while Sunday’s rides will also cause disruption to travel in south-west London and Surrey.

Transport for London have advised drivers to avoid affected areas on both days. On Sunday, the following Thames crossings will be closed for some or all of the day:

  • Blackwall Tunnel
  • Tower Bridge
  • Southwark Bridge
  • Westminster Bridge
  • Lambeth Bridge
  • Vauxhall Bridge
  • Battersea Bridge
  • Chelsea Bridge
  • Albert Bridge
  • Chiswick Bridge
  • Putney Bridge
  • Kingston Bridge
  • Hampton Court Bridge

There are also suspensions on public transport to keep in mind if you’re planning on travelling to the event. The Piccadilly and Metropolitan lines will not be running between Rayners Lane to Uxbridge throughout the entire weekend.

A number of buses in surrounding areas will also be suspended.

The Ride London schedule in full:

Saturday 9 August 9am – 4pm: FreeCycle. The first event of the weekend offers everyone and anyone the chance to get involved. FreeCycle is a mass ten-mile, traffic free route through central London. .

Saturday 9 August 5pm – 7:30pm: Grand Prix. This event features a boys' and girls' youth and professional women's race.

Sunday 10 August 08:30pm – 10pm: Handcycle Classic. Making its debut in 2014, the Handcycle classic is a brand new event in which fifty top hand-cyclists race from Kingston upon Thames to the Mall.

Sunday 10 August 6am – 5pm: Surrey 100. Thousands of cyclists take on a challenging 100-mile route from the Olympic Park through to Surrey. Suffice to say, this one isn't open to all.

Sunday 10 August 1pm – 6pm: Surrey Classic. 150 of the top men's cyclists race on the same route to Surrey.
