Redundancies loom at Time Warner

Time Warner is expected to announce 550 job cuts this week at its Turner arm, which includes the likes of CNN and Cartoon Network, according to reports.

CNN and its spin-off HLN are expected to bear the brunt of the cuts, with The Wrap saying "a couple of hundred" redundancies were expected at both, some of which are likely to be compulsory.

CNN did not comment.

The move comes a week after Turner Broadcasting System chief executive John Martin revealed the business would undergo corporate restructuring this autumn.

In a note to staff, he said:
"Division leaders now are reviewing the working groups’ reports on their respective areas of oversight. Over the coming weeks, they will work with me to finalize the organizational changes we will implement."

He added that the company would start next year as:

"a more streamlined, nimble and efficient company focused on driving programming, monetization and innovation, in a culture that emphasizes and rewards continuous improvement."
CNN chief Jeff Zucker reportedly told employees that they would hearing from their managers this week or the next. "We are going to do less and have to do it with less,” he added.
