Robinho will give us extra dimension, says Kenyon

Chelsea chief executive Peter Kenyon believes transfer target Robinho will give the Blues “an extra dimension” in their bid to reclaim the Premier League title.

The Brazilian striker is expected to end months of speculation by flying to west London and completing a £30m move from Real Madrid today.

And Kenyon insists the skilful forward will be the vital last piece in boss Luis Felipe Scolari’s jigsaw at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea have already had one bid rejected for the 24-year-old with Real holding out for £35m. But Kenyon admitted yesterday that the deal is close to be finalised.

“The Robinho one is continuing to rumble, we’re ever-confident that will get done, but I think we’ve always said it will go to the wire,” he said.

“We keep moving it along and we hope that he would be coming to join us at Chelsea. Scolari identified two targets when we appointed him as manager. One was Deco and the other was Robinho. Everyone has seen the impact that Deco has had on the Premier League. I think the squad is capable of competing without Robinho but with him will give us an added dimension.”

But while Kenyon was feeling positive about the Robinho move, he was quick to dismiss speculation that AC Milan star Kaka would be joining his fellow Brazilian at Stamford Bridge.

“Everybody identifies Kaka as one of the world’s best players,” Kenyon added. “All I can say it’s flattering to be associated with the player, but there won’t be anything happening this window or this season.”
