Sajid Javid on O2 outage: “Sort it out”

By: Catherine Neilan

He's still pretty new to the role but business secretary Sajid Javid has already secured some fans – and potentially at least one telecoms enemy.

Yesterday mobile phone network O2 suffered a series of outages that affected users in London, Sussex, Manchester, Bristol, Birmingham, Glasgow and parts of Northern Ireland.

O2 said it was “aware of isolated instances where some customers have intermitted access to our service”. But plenty of customers called the company out, claiming they had gone for several hours without connection.

Javid was among the many customers not impressed, telling the provider to “sort it out”.

He was retweeted more than 230 times by fellow O2 users sharing the pain – or in some cases dishing it back out.

As of early hours this morning, O2 said “some customers” had a return to normal service.
