Sierra Leone’s finance minister, Kaifala Marah, flew in to London this weekend to join talks concerning the potential sale of London Mining’s Marampa iron ore mine.

The company was forced to appoint administrators from PwC last week and is now in discussions with Timis Corporation and Indian firm JSW, which are both interested in buying the Marampa operation.

A spokesman for London Mining said the Sierra Leone government is “very keen” to make sure that the mine, which employs 2,000 people, continues to operate. He added: “It’s a small mine, but it’s an important contributor to Sierra Leone’s economy.”
