Silicon Roundabout guru Tim Luke back to Barclays’ investment bank

Top technology analyst Tim Luke is heading back to Barclays this month, the bank announced last night, after three years as an adviser to Prime Minister David Cameron.

Luke has been re-hired by the bank as managing director and vice-president of technology, media and telecomms (TMT) in New York.

He worked at Lehman Brothers and then Barclays – which bought much of Lehman’s business in the credit crunch – for a total of 18 years, becoming managing director and global sector head for technology equity research.

In June 2011, he moved to Number 10’s policy unit, helping to build Tech City and promote London’s technology sector.

Barclays’ New York investment banking arm has taken a beating in the past year as staff jumped ship to rivals who were not caught by the EU’s bonus cap. But the bank has fought back in recent months with a hiring spree.

It has re-hired Gary Antenberg, who left to go to Deutsche Bank as managing director and chairman of insurance, in its financial institutions group.

Barclays also snapped up Bank of America Merrill Lynch’s Raj Bala to head real estate mergers and acquisitions, and Tom Vandever from Goldman Sachs to lead M&A of financial institutions.
