  1. He made his name on Wall Street in 1983 when he put a sell call on the entire investment banking sector while everyone else was saying buy. He turned out to be right.

  2. He stood for parliament for the Lib Dems in 1997. Looking to boost their financial kudos, they put him up for an unwinnable seat in Welwyn Hatfield.

  3. He was kicked out of school at 15. His parents sent him to a religious school which he hated, and one day his misbehaviour (including some swearing at his teacher) got him expelled.
