In pictures: City braves the rain as Tour de France hits London
Spectators ignored the rain to line the streets of London to see the Tour de France make its way through the capital this afternoon, with cyclists passing some of London’s biggest landmarks.
The City, Canary Wharf, The Tower of London, the Houses of Parliament and Buckingham Palace were just some of the locations which played host to the race.

The unusual site of the prestigious event travelling through London took some by surprise. Race commentators on ITV, likely to be more familiar with the winding mountain roads of France, mistakenly called City landmark the Onion instead of the Gherkin.

Lower and Upper Thames streets were a popular location to watch with a number of bridges and walkways over the route.

And Ed Miliband managed to find a good spot down at Embankment, sharing this Vine.
Big Ben and Buckingham Palace became backdrops for the final leg of the race, with German rider Marcel Kittel first over the finish line.
