Ukip strikes back after claims that Farage misused allowance

UKIP party officials were on the attack yesterday, after claims that leader Nigel Farage misused allowances from the European parliament.

The party published a list of journalists at The Times who it accuses of conspiring against Ukip to boost the fortunes of the Conservative party by publishing the expenses claims.

Yesterday, The Times published a report claiming that a £15,500 yearly allowance paid to Farage for the upkeep of a constituency office has been spent elsewhere, as the office was given rent-free to the party 15 years ago.

However one of the sources for the story, David Samuel-Camps, wrote to the newspaper to complain that he had been misquoted in the story regarding the cost of utilities to the office. A Ukip spokesman would not answer questions about the allowances but said: “Nigel Farage is confident that he has abided by European parliamentary rules at all times when spending allowances.”
