Jean Tirole’s Wikipedia page in need of an edit as Manuel Valls thumbs his nose at Andy Street
When Jean Tirole’s name was read out at the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences yesterday, a lot of people, economics geeks aside, Googled his name to see who exactly the Nobel Prize for Economics winner was. Along with the list of the economist’s various accolades, Tirole’s Wikipedia page said, “YO, SOMEONE EDIT THIS STUFF IT LOOKS LIKE KRAP [sic].”
“Krap” is not becoming of a Nobel laureate. Indeed, it didn’t take too long for someone to edit it and this appeared instead: “AND HE WON THE EFFING NOBEL PRIZE [CITATION NEEDED].” A spirited defence you’ll agree.
Another enthusiastic Tirole fan was French PM Manuel Valls, who was clearly delighted to have the chance to blow raspberries at John Lewis MD Andy Street. Tweeting in French, he celebrated that a second Frenchman had walked away with a Nobel prize this week (following Patrick Modiano) – saying it “thumbed the nose at French bashing”.
Valls wasn’t alone in this observation. “French men have now won this year’s Nobel Prize for both Literature and Economics – no comment as yet from John Lewis,” tweeted economist John Philpott. Touché.
