Wales star arrested in golf cart incident

WALES back row Andy Powell has been arrested after allegedly taking and driving a golf buggy towards a motorway just hours after his side’s dramatic 31-24 Six Nations victory over Scotland.

The Cardiff Blues star, 28, was arrested with another 28-year-old man at around 6am yesterday at a service station near junction 34 of the M4 motorway – close to the Vale of Glamorgan golf and spa resort where the Welsh team were staying.

The identity of the other man is not known and police revealed that one of the men had failed a breath test, although did not say which one.

Inspector Tony McAlinden, of South Wales Police, said: “I can confirm that two 28-year-old males were arrested on suspicion of taking and driving away a golf cart. One of the males subsequently failed a breathalyser.”

Brecon-born flanker Powell has won 14 caps for Wales and toured with the British and Lions in South Africa last summer.

l Meanwhile, Scotland have been hit by the news that key trio Thom Evans, Chris Paterson and Rory Lamont will all miss the rest of the Six Nations with injury.

Wing Evans underwent successful neck surgery following a sickening collision with Wales’ Lee Byrne.

Evans, a cousin of Radio 2 DJ Chris Evans, is now “moving his arms and legs” according to team doctor James Robson, but will definitely not play again this season.

Full-back Paterson, who was winning his 100th cap for the Scots, is expected out for up to 10 weeks after suffering bruising to his kidney, while wing Lamont suffered a medial ligament injury.
