Want to go for lunch with star investor Jim Mellon? Head to Ebay

The bidding is afoot – multi-millionaire fund manager Jim Mellon is currently being auctioned off on Ebay. Well, lunch with him is.

Mellon is often referred to as the British Warren Buffett and now the Isle of Man-based fund manager has taken the analogy further by offering a power lunch with himself to the highest bidder, with all proceeds going to charity.

The move followed an article on CityAM earlier this week which urged the UK’s financial bigwigs to follow in Buffett’s footsteps and auction off the chance to spend a few hours with them over some delicious food. Mellon answered our call and has offered himself up in aid of Wellbeing of Women – a charity of which is sister Claire is a trustee.

Mellon has offered to take two people to lunch, at a convenient time for all parties – and will match any bid, up to the value of £10,000 – to add to the charity’s final tally.

Buffett’s annual bid-off is due to come to an end tomorrow and the highest bid currently stands at $1000,300. Mellon’s starting bid stands at a significantly lower £100 but is expected to rise quickly.

“It’s a great idea  – sadly, I’m a pale imitation of Warren Buffet but happy to do a lunch for two people at a mutually convenient time,” he told us.

What are you waiting for, Mellon is currently 117 on the Sunday Times Rich List with an estimated fortune of £850m – a power lunch with this man is priceless.
