STRICTLY SPANGLES FOR LOVELLS LAWYERS
ACTOR Tom Chambers had better watch out: he’s got competition, from the somewhat unlikely quarters of the lawyer gang at Lovells.
I hear almost 300 of the firm’s staff packed the ballroom at the City Grange hotel on Wednesday last week for their own version of the Beeb’s hit show Strictly Come Dancing, raising over £15,000 for charities ParalympicsGB and Orbis.
Design manager Errol Donald and HR manager Jenny Bond eventually jived their way to a sparkling victory over the other 17 nimble-footed couples taking part (looking every inch the celebrities in their spangled costumes), while the rest, including head of financial services Rachel Kent and her financial institutions partner James McDonald, also played their part in shaking off the profession’s dreary reputation with an impressive array of waltzes, cha chas, tangos and jives.
Of course, there’s always got to be one poor soul wearing the John Sergeant hat in an event of this kind – lovable, but ultimately not cut out for the dance floor. The Capitalist understands Lovells’ very own “Sergeant” was none other than head of corporate finance Chris Ashworth, who tells me he’s “certainly not looking to give up the day job”.
Take heart, Chris: everyone’s favourite portly political hack may not have been the best dancer in the world, but he’ll be dining out off the experience for many years yet.
